Warmer days are on the horizon and I fully intend to make the most of them!
I’ve been thinking a lot recently about self care and how to fit this into day to day life. It certainly feels easy when the sun is shining and I naturally spend more time outside.
Gardening
Spring is the perfect time to regenerate your garden and give it a new lease of life – whether that’s by tidying up what’s already there or starting from scratch. We set out the basic structure of our garden a few years ago with various raised beds. It’s looking a little untidy now winter is coming to an end so we’ll be starting with weeding, cutting the grass, and having a general tidy up before sowing vegetable seeds and adding some colourful flowers. Not only is gardening itself often therapeutic, but I always feel proud of what I’ve achieved come the summer. It’s particularly rewarding growing your own food and harvesting throughout the summer and autumn.
Nature walks
One of my favourite ways to boost my mood is to spend time outside appreciating nature. By combining this with walking, you’ll benefit from some gentle exercise as well – another great option for self care and improving your mood.
We regularly visit Needham Lake as the children love stopping to feed the ducks and running around the wooded area. The Duck and Teapot is a lovely place to stop for a coffee while the children play on the park outside. It’s also dog friendly so we can take Ruby in too.
West Stow Country Park is another favourite, with plenty of walking routes and trails for the children to follow. The wooden dragon is especially popular in our house!
Eat outside
A simple way to enjoy the fresh air! Either pack up a picnic, pick up a takeaway, or take your lunch into the garden. Make it a healthy option to benefit your health and wellbeing further!
I’m looking forward to enjoying fruit and pastries on the beach on sunny weekend mornings. By the time we’ve polished off breakfast, it’s usually warm enough for a quick paddle in the sea.
Bring the outside in
Nothing says spring more than a bunch of fresh flowers! I absolutely love daffodils. Their yellow petals add a burst of colour to the room, giving me a pick me up every time I walk past them. If daffodils aren’t your thing, there are plenty of pretty flowers to choose from!
Get creative
Pastel shades lend themselves well to spring and Easter crafts. Will you decorate a cake, take a paintbrush to some eggs, or put together a new length of bunting?
I’d like to make a batch of dandelion shortbread this year – a recipe recommended to me last spring that I never got round to trying. We tend to plan in spring crafts during the Easter holidays too.
Relax with reflexology
Last but not least, a self care idea for all seasons! Book yourself a reflexology treatment to balance your body and mind. A great way to relax and unwind – reflexology relieves tension, aids sleep and promotes wellbeing.
